Description
This Asbestos Awareness training course provides students with information they will need to identify work areas where asbestos may be present, understand the harmful effects of asbestos, describe methods to avoid asbestos exposure, and become familiar with OSHA and EPA standards designed to protect workers on the job site, among many other important topics.
This class is specifically designed for employee who will be working in buildings where asbestos is present but will not be disturbing it. This training is NOT for those workers that perform asbestos abatement, repair or clean-up activities, and does not provide training on the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Both the EPA and OSHA recommend this training be completed on an annual basis for individuals who work in buildings where asbestos is present.
Objectives
The objectives of this Asbestos Awareness course are to inform students of the dangers of asbestos, the industries and locations in which asbestos is common, and the methods to protect themselves from exposure to asbestos.
The course will also introduce students to the OSHA and EPA standards that address asbestos in the workplace including:
- 40 CFR Part 763 Subpart G (AHERA) Asbestos in Schools
- 29 CFR 1910.1001 for General Industry;
- 29 CFR 1926.1101 for Construction; and
This class meets the requirements of AHERA for custodial and maintenance workers in schools who will not intentionally disturb asbestos.

- Supervisors or administrative staff that work in schools or other buildings with ACM
- Maintenance or custodial employees that work in a building or on a ship that contains Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM)
- General industry, construction industry and maritime workers
- Construction managers, engineers or tradesman that work in buildings with known ACM
- Property or apartment managers that own or manage pre-1981 buildings or buildings with known ACM
- Current or prospective homeowners that are seeking knowledge about asbestos
- Anyone who wants a base knowledge about asbestos.
